we started our adventure at Satoshis Games, we had the opportunity to be among the very first ones to experiment with Bitcoin micro-transactions within the gaming industry. We built satoshis.games, a
web-based 8-bit style gaming platform. The response from the market was great and this validated our model. Therefore, we started working on a new innovative game: Lightnite.
What is Lightnite?
is an online multiplayer battle royale game where every specific digital interaction between players triggers a monetary reward or penalty. In simple words, players gaming on the bitcoin mode can earn or lose bitcoin by shooting other players. However, this is not the only innovative feature of the game:
- In-game assets can be traded on the shop using the Lightning Network;
- Balance updates in real-time every time a player
shoots, get fired or picks up a valuable item (the player can then exit
the game when he wants to and instantly withdraw his balance into his wallet).
Lightnite is accessible by any player but integrates Bitcoin tech for most innovative players who are willing to experiment with in-game Bitcoin micro-transactions as an optional feature. This is also a way through which we want to contribute to Bitcoin mass adoption.
What is the technology behind Lightnite?
for satoshis.games, we use the Lightning Network (Bitcoin’s transaction
layer) to integrate Bitcoin micro-transactions within Lightnite. The only thing that players need to do in order to play Lightnite and enjoy
the full potential of the in-game Bitcoin micro-transactions is
downloading a wallet that supports the Lightning Network (e.g.
Bluewallet), send a small fraction of bitcoin to that wallet and start
sending and receiving bitcoin over the Lightning Network while playing
Bitcoin-integrated mode. (Not final name) Players will enter the game and join other players online after making a
micro-transaction (no pay-to-play: the micro-transaction only updates the balance of the player who can then withdraw it back if he doesn’t die before exiting the game). Every player has an in-game balance that increases in real-time when he shoots other players or picks up valuable items and decreases when he gets fired. When the player wants to exit the game, he can withdraw his balance into his own wallet and spend his bitcoin on the in-game store, on other Lapps or on tacos and beers.
Lightnite is a game that is designed for non-coiners. Both the game design and the mechanics and content is oriented to the normal gamer (no-coiner). Now, in the same way, that the current fiat economic model is inflationary and thus, we are early adopters of bitcoin. Lightnite is similar, it is a game that is on top of a scarcity asset (bitcoin) creating scarcity in-game experiences. Let me make a breakdown by exemplifying:
Within the lightnite shop, the skins are limited. Hats, glasses, backpacks all have a limited amount per season pass. When a user plays in normal mode you put on your purchased skins and play with them and at the end of the game you keep them and you can always use them. Now, when you play in bitcoin mode it is different. It is more competitive and attractive. The skins (hats, glasses from the shop) when you die in the game they stay on the ground of the game and if no other user picks it up, It disappears. Creating a scarcity element within the in-game assets.
However, players can grab your loot and if they remain alive and hence win the battle royale they can sell the items in the Lightnite store and cashing out the profits. Thus increasing the value of the first items in the first season pass and the experience of the game to make these in-game assets + micro-revenue model more attractive to the non-coiner user
Non-Bitcoin-integrated mode. (Not final name) Same the game, no micro-transaction required to join the game, in-game points instead of bitcoin. In addition, players can buy items in the store using fiat money (it would be great if everyone could use bitcoin, but mass adoption has to be reached one step at a time).
is currently under heavy development, but once ready it will be available on all
the major games distribution platforms (Steam, Itch.io, Play Station,
etc). However, the early access will be exclusively for the backers and supporters of this campaign and the beta will be accessible through Elixir.App.
